Meet Isabella DeToto, a senior majoring in Advertising with a minor in Marketing. She has made a meaningful impact as the Marketing Lead at the ������ State Recreation and Wellness Center. She started as a Marketing Assistant in Fall 2024 and quickly grew into a leadership role where she now helps guide marketing efforts while gaining hands-on experience that directly supports her future professional ambitions. 

In her role, Isabella began creating a solid foundation in social media strategy, product management, and marketing planning. She acknowledges her position at RecWell for giving her real-world exposure that complements what she’s learned in the classroom. “I have gained professional knowledge in social media and marketing as a Marketing Assistant at ������ State Recreation and Wellness Center,” Isabella shared. “Within this role, I have learned so much about the ins and outs of a marketing position.” She emphasizes that what she’s done as a student and an exceptional RecWell employee has prepared her for what’s next in her career outside of the department. 

Isabella mentions her favorite part about working at RecWell to be the people around her. For her, being surrounded by fellow student employees who share a common goal and are willing to support one another to that achievement has been uplifting. Also, getting the chance to work in a position that aligns with her future career came to be motivating and rewarding. It allows Isabella to apply her classroom lessons to a professional setting and simultaneously build a useful skill set.

Isabella has strengthened her time management and leadership skills through managing projects and supervising responsibilities. She remembers a pivotal moment when she had taken on larger responsibilities due to the absence of another person in that position. A midst of being faced with unfamiliar tasks, Isabella continued to “put on a brave face” and embraced the challenge. In the end, she grew more confident in her leadership abilities even when she did not feel prepared. She credits her coworkers and supervisors for their encouragement and support throughout the process.

Isabella has felt especially influenced by her academics while working at RecWell. Seeing her impact on the work she’s put in increased her confidence in her studies and professional abilities – reinforcing her passion for advertising and marketing.

To the fresh and new student employees of Recreation and Wellness Services, Isabella advocates for creativity and communication. “Don’t be afraid to speak up,” she suggests, “If you have an idea and think it will help the department, do your best to make it happen. You were hired for a reason – we saw what you could bring to the team.” Moreover, she highlights the importance of communicating when challenges arise, reminding students and staff that it is okay to ask for help because that is what the RecWell community is there for.

Outside of work and school, Isabella is a proud cat owner of her precious tuxedo cat, Pepper!
